After providing a Dementia weekend day care facility since 1994, a decision was made by the management committee to seek funding to raise capital to build purpose built centre in West Lothian to serve older people residing in west of West Lothian. The new organisation was named ANSWER Project Ltd (addressing Needs & Serving West Lothian Elderly residents) and discussions with Help the Aged to complete a Feasibility Study were held in the spring of 2000. The agreement set up was that Help the Aged would provide a fundraiser at no cost to help ANSWER Project Ltd to help reach a target figure of around £900,000.
There was defined need to expand the services offered to people with dementia but to do this we required a building, which would be available and facilitate groups in addition to the Saturday service. It was therefore decided that a new centre should be be constructed to meet these needs and act as a vital facility for the older residents of Whitburn and the surrounding area. On 13th August 1999 ANSWER Project Ltd was granted charitable status by the Inland Revenue and after becoming a Company Limited by guarantee on November 2000 it opened under a Memorandum and Articles of Association with a board of Directors. Due to the difficulties encountered in trying to rise such a large sum money a decision was taken by the Directors and in agreement with Help the Aged to scale down the size of the Project and the outcome being a much more manageable building at a cost of £364,000. Help the Aged continued to provide fundraising staff until February 2004. At this point the ANSWER Project Ltd board and volunteers took on the role of raising the capital Project. The building work commenced in June 2005 and the new Day Centre (ANSWER HOUSE) was officially opened my MSP Mary Mulligan on the 21st June 2006. Due to inflation and unexpected extra cost to the final building costs totalled £500,000 including legal and professional fees.
